Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on Ender’s Game

kurtzman and orciSpeakeasy, The Wall Street Journal blog, recently spoke to the Sci-Fi duo ALex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci about their recent and upcoming films (Star Trek: Into Darkness, Ender’s Game, Now You See Me and more). The interview is broken into 2 parts but in the second posting is where they go into the Ender’s Game talk.

Alike, all of the Ender’s Game crew and we heard a little about it in the Google+ hangout, Kurtzman and Orci both have read the Ender’s Game books a long time ago and have been fans ever since.

Trying to get into Ender’s head Speakeasy got the producers to talk about the dramatization of the books internal narration.

The answer is both through having some of those internal struggles be dramatically shown as scenes, and second, we have an advantage that the book does not have, and that is actors. We have great actors who can not only say things, but play things and play reactions on their faces and actually convey a lot of the emotion of the book.

It’s great to read more of the process of bringing Ender’s Game to life. Just more excitement for us fans. You can read the whole article here (part 1, part 2)

Ender’s Game Trailer and Star Trek: Into Darkness Early Showing

It seems like Summit has decided to release Star Trek: Into Darkness one day early and is keeping with that word. It was set to release May 17th but is now showing across the country. The IMAX version is now playing so should the original picture as well. If you have any advanced ticket purchases make sure to check the date and time on them to know you have the right showtime.

About the Ender’s Game trailer, I’ve had experience with other movie trailers (most recently The Hunger Games) where they are supposed to be attached to a specific movie but my local theater failed to show it. Technically the Ender’s Game trailer is suppose to be attached to Star Trek: Into Darkness so no theater shouldn’t show it but sometimes it varies from theater and state and country whether they have the reel or not.

I suggest, if you are highly anticipating to watch the Ender’s Game trailer, to call ahead your local theater and ask if they are showing it with Star Trek. If they have no idea what your talking about then most likely they are bugger lovers. I went and called my theater and the girl personally saw the Ender’s Game trailer on the IMAX version of Star Trek so I can definitely look forward to seeing it.

 

Asa Butterfield and Chloe Moretz to Reunite in “The White Circus”

Variety reports that both stars from Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo” will reunite in a new dark fairytale by executive  producer Terry Gilliam.

“Circus” is an adventure-romance that takes place on a snowy New Year’s Eve, when a young pilot crashes his plane into a war-torn town on his first mission. There, he falls in love with a beautiful cabaret singer, befriends a talking circus bear and incites the townsfolk to liberate themselves from a despot.

“The White Circus” will start production in Germany and Serbia February 2014.

CEO Nick Meyer Talk’s About Ender’s Game

Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game movie script was so good that he got Nick Meyer’s and Marc Schaberg, owner’s of Seirra/Affinity, to invest in the Ender’s Game project.

THR: There are high expectations for fall’s YA adaptation Ender’s Game. How did the movie come about?

Meyer: Gigi [Pritzker] was a partner in the company and we talked about how we could help with the foreign piece and arrange financing. OddLot and [director] Gavin Hood had developed an outstanding script, and we created a sizzle reel. We sold out in almost every foreign territory, while Summit struck a domestic deal.

Oh what we would do to be able to read that script. Watching the movie would be a grand prize on its own but to have the script and see the detailed actions they envision would be amazing also!

Moises Arias on Set of Ender’s Game

Backstage got the chance to talk to Moises Arias, Bonzo de Madrid, about his acting career. Moises had a great opportunity while transitioning from TV to the big screen. As he mentions he went from “Hannah Montanna” to Ender’s Game and Kings of Summer it’s an opportunity many actors don’t get.

One interesting topic they discussed was Moises’ time on set of Ender’s Game. He states that many of the extras were afraid of him because he was in character most of the time. On and off set as Bonzo Madrid wouldn’t you be?

“I wasn’t doing it on purpose, I was just trying to stay in the mindset. At the end they finally started talking to me and admitted to me that I had scared them.”

Can we say that sounds like the Bonzo we know from the book? I think so. If he put in the extra effort to bring Bonzo to life we can sure expect some great characterization in the movie.
